Currently July! (and by the way, how is it July already?!)

I'm linking up with Farley over at Oh Boy Fourth Grade for a little bit of Currently fun!

Listening... I'm sitting in bed in my hotel room at ISTE, getting ready for my last day of learning here. I stayed up late getting all my treasures packed up. I'll be sharing lots about ISTE later on the blog! But right now, I'm all tucked in, with the curtains open and the lights off, admiring the overcast Philadelphia sky and listening to all the traffic. It's rather peaceful, in a way! Since I'm not involved in all that traffic, it doesn't bother me!

Loving... And I am loving everything about ISTE. I've met lots of people from all over the world, seen lots of cool gadgets and programs and apps, tasted some delicious Philadelphia food, and learned some great things that I'm eager to share with my students and teachers in the fall!

Thinking... how can it be July already? Seriously? I have so much that I want to accomplish, and I just know that August will sneak up on me and before you know it, I'll be back in my classroom getting ready for a fresh group of first graders! Yikes. I have apps to try, a party to throw, sewing and crafts to make, friends to visit, the beach to enjoy, books to read, naps to take... the list goes on! I think when I get home I'll make a list, categorize everything and get organized!

Wanting... Among the many, many cool things I've seen at ISTE is a 3Doodler. Think of it as a pen that uses 3D ink. It heats up skinny plastic rods, and then you get to draw in 3D.  I just checked online and it looks like they are available at Michael's, of all places! Here's a link if you want to know more. I would love to play with this at home with my husband and kids (we have an artistic, tech-y bunch!) and I think it would be perfect for Maker activities at school!

Needing... SLEEP! Omiword. The last three weeks have been a whirlwind of activity. School ended. Then I spent a week with my Writing Leadership Team, discussing implementation strategies, coaching, and learning even more about Lucy Calkins' Units of Study for Teaching Writing. Next, I spent a week presenting for Ventura County's STEMposium, which I'll write about soon. It was good stuff, just exhausting! And the minute it ended, I started doing laundry and packing my suitcase for my red-eye (what was I thinking?!) to Philadelphia for ISTE. Friends, I'm EX. HAUST. ED. I cannot wait to get to my own bed tonight and sleeeeeeeeeeeep the day away tomorrow! Of course, my plane won't be landing at LAX until midnight, which will be 3:00 am here...

All Star... I am a good swimmer. And I love swimming! Don't those things usually go hand in hand? You love something, so you do it more, and you get better at it, which makes you motivated to do it more... I've been swimming since I was little. I swam on competitive teams for years, including an adult team in Davis, California, where my husband and I went to college and where we lived for a number of years. I love the smell of the chlorine, I love the sounds of the splashing water, and I love the endorphins after a good workout! It's taken our family a while to get settled after our move to Southern California, and we finally joined a gym. (We'll be joining the Masters team next!) I've been swimming quite a bit in the last few months and oh, goodness! It feels so good, and makes me happy! Now to get back in "swimming shape" and start competing!

  3. I was stuck in that crazy Philly traffic yesterday for about 2 hours and it was so not fun! It sounds like you've had a busy, but fulfilling few weeks! Sadly, I am not a swimmer so I really admire your talent!

    Enjoy this wonderful month!
